Welcome to my new site

June 26, 2017

Hello and welcome to my new page! Over the last few months I have been working on my own wee music project, and I have recorded two new tracks. I was very fortunate to be joined by Alistair Iain Paterson on piano and Pablo Lafuente on guitar- two extremely talented musicians! It has been a while in the making, but I now have the tracks ready to share with you as well as my new website, Facebook, SoundCloud and YouTube pages.

I'm lucky to have very talented family who have helped me get this project together; my cousin Felix was the mastermind behind the videos and recorded and edited both alongside James Bailey who assisted with camera work. The artwork featured at the end of the video is by my Dad Michael Felix, and my brother in law Jamie built up my website. Photo credits go to photographer Jennifer MacPhee (Clickybox Photography) who also happens to be my 2nd cousin!

The tracks were recorded and mixed by Gus Stirrat at Solas Sounds. It was difficult to decide on which tunes to record but in the end I chose a beautiful Gaelic Air written by Màiri Nic a' Phearsain (Màiri Mhòr nan Òran) called Eilean A' Cheò- a song about the Highland Clearances and one I had heard sung by Cathy Ann MacPhee a while back and again during the reproduction of The Cheviot, the Stag and the Black Black Oil- it's a tune that has always stayed with me. The other track consists of two of my own tunes (the 2nd was co written with help from Calum MacDonald); the first was written on a rather bleak Friday evening and is called Trom Laighe which translates as heavy lying or a nightmare. The second tune, Suzie in the Pyrenees, was written whilst touring around France last year with my fiancé Calum in our little Suzuki van. The last tune is a great reel called Lizzie in the Lowground written by one of my fiddle idols Liz Carroll.

I have a few gigs in the pipeline and I am really excited at the prospect of performing more! I really hope you enjoy the tracks!
